AMAALA Triple Bay Master Plan A Luxurious Landmark Hospitality Destination on the Red Sea
Triple Bay, Saudi Arabia
The Challenge
Amaala will offer an experiential lifestyle choice to discerning visitors to Saudi Arabia to help boost domestic tourism and become the newest destination on the jet-setter map. Amaala’s vision looks to create a landmark hospitality destination on the shores of the Red Sea, serving as a bridge between land and sea to provide a home away from home for global travelers and the international yachting fraternities. As envisioned in the Vision 2030 strategy, the project looked to support the diversification of Saudi Arabia’s leisure and tourism industry, while promoting cultural conservation, ecological preservation and sustainability.
The Design Solution
Designed by HKS and with interior design by ROAM, Amaala is an ultra-luxury development that is part of an integrated approach to developing Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast focusing on wellness, healthy living and meditation. The beacon of the island will be the arts village, dedicated to the best in Saudi and international art. The Cradle of Art will host various types of events in its dramatic natural landscape including staged concerts, Cirque du Soleil, art car shows, fashion shows and grand functions that run effortlessly in this multi-functional, fully adaptable space.
The master plan responds to the topography of the land and places the various island offerings in their own secluded pieces of paradise. Drawing design inspiration from two sets of geometry, HKS designers first looked to the unique rock formations on the Saudi Red Sea coastline to create the club’s bespoke cantilevered terraces, which echo the natural shape of the surrounding cliffs, eroded over time by wind and sea. Comprised of 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) of beautiful unspoiled island landscape, Amaala stands out for its natural diversity and unique heritage that offers several stunning geological and historical sites, such as Madain Saleh and Al-Ula. Further, the Red Sea Coral Reef offers a unique and protected eco-system to explore and appeal to visitors as one of the world’s last remaining pristine marine ecosystems.
The development boasts an eclectic mix of galleries, ateliers, artisan workshops and bespoke retail shops supported by a wide range of international and local signature dining venues.
A Public Investment Fund company and a key contributor to Vision 2030, Amaala will establish new standards in luxury and wellness. The project is the latest ‘giga-project’ in support of Vision 2030 to promote economic diversification by promoting cultural conservation, ecological preservation and sustainability. Amaala will be powered by 100% renewable energy for which the resulting saving in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere is equivalent to nearly half a million tons each year. The destination will operate with a zero-carbon footprint once fully operational. As part of a new Red Sea ecosystem, the project is a part of NEOM and the Red Sea Project. All developments on the Red Sea are intended to co-exist in a complementary manner to cover different target audiences by providing different offerings to match their needs, futuristic business and industrial zones.
The Design Impact
Amaala is on track to be a significant driver of domestic and foreign direct investment, stimulating economic growth and job creation on Saudi Arabia’s northwestern coast. Developed over three sites located within the Natural Reserves, the project is expected to generate 22,000 jobs across hospitality and tourism, leisure and retail, in addition to the opportunities created in construction and ancillary industries.
